Profile of E2A Eckert Eckert Architekten, headquartered in Switzerland. Seven projects submitted by E2A Eckert Eckert Architekten have been published on Architecture News Plus (ANP).
E2A Eckert Eckert Architekten practices architecture and urban design. The office was founded in 2001 and is led by the brothers Piet and Wim Eckert. Currently the practice employs 30 architects working on 15 projects.
E2A conceives architectural and urban projects as an interdisciplinary process, as a multiple authorship. The conceptual development is a synthesis of an analytic perception of the context and a hypothetical, programmatic approach - outlining an interpretation of the contemporary living conditions.
Early key projects were Nouvelle Destination for the Swiss National Exhibition expo.02 (2002), the Broëlberg Housing Estate in Kilchberg (2003), the Terrace Housing in Meilen near Zurich (2005) and the Triangle House in Winterthur (2008).
Since 2001, E2A has entered competitions and studies successfully. Subsequently, a number of public projects have been realized: The Heinrich Boell Foundation in Berlin (2008), the Center for Hearing and Language in Zurich (2008) and the Sports Facilities Juchhof in Zurich (2007).The School Centre in Opfikon and the Auditorium in Staefa will be completed in 2010.
E2A also received much attention for several international competition entries: This includes the new Natural History Museum St. Gallen (2nd prize, 2009), the European Patent Office in The Hague (final round, 2004) and the the extension of the World Trade Organization in Geneva (1st prize, 2002).
Recent and current projects represent a change to a larger scale. E2A was awarded with the first prize for the Masterplan for the Escher Wyss Areal, the largest industrial area in Zurich. Current projects are: the 60 m high-rise apartment building Escher-Terrassen, which will incorporate apartments and the rehearsal stages of the Zurich Opera, a housing complex with 150 apartments and a production hall for high-tech devices.
Projects of E2A have been published in monographs as well as in numerous magazines and books. 2009 the fifth monograph Serien 2004-09 was released. In 2008 E2A’s work was shown in the solo exhibition The Ideal Context, at the Architektur Galerie Berlin, followed by Fractions of Reality at the Cultural Center in Belgrade in 2009 and Serien 2004-09 at the Architekturgalerie am Weissenhof in Stuttgart, Germany.
