Brief description
The materials we work with are commonplace; however, our curiosity about them and their methods of assembly are not. Priority is given to an architecture that is clear, precise, and honest – that reduces architecture to its essence and reflects on what is absolutely necessary. Further measurability of architectural clarity is granted solely in a building whose form is developed through the intense working of materials and their methods of construction – an exploitation of materials and connections whose sensory and tactile qualities are revealed. Unlike architecture that is reduced to two dimensions and one sense, we propose an architecture in multiple dimensions and for all the senses.
For more than 80 years, Spillman Farmer Architects has continued to provide a broad range of architectural, planning, and design services. Our architectural work has been recognized by the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Institute of Architects and has also appeared in numerous national publications including the New York Times, The Chronicle of Higher Education, American School & University magazine, and Athletic Business News. Our work has also recently been included in the Museum of Modern Arts’s 2008 exhibit Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling.
