Profile of Möhn + Bouman architects, headquartered in Netherlands. Two projects submitted by Möhn + Bouman architects have been published on Architecture News Plus (ANP).
Möhn Bouman Architects has existed since 1998 and works on a wide range of assignments. Before setting up their bureau Andrea Möhn and René Bouman worked for several bureaux such as Mecanoo, van Berkel and Bos and Kees Christiaanse. Apart from their bureau both are also active as visiting lecturers at the Technical University in Delft, the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam and Oxford Brookes University.
Location and commission determine to a large extent the design. Peculiarities thus often turn out to provide surprising opportunities. A brown coal quarry in the former DDR can, it appears, become a beautiful park; living on Barbados in a pit with cooling winds and a view of the ocean, or a patio dwelling looking out on the Bosphorus through a periscope. On the way to realising the plans, a great deal of energy is spent on the technical details of the projects. Practice shows that in this way the technical and financial risks which are often associated with innovative architecture can be kept to a minimum.
