Architect's statement
The plot, wide where it meets the road and converging to an almost triangular shape at the back, where an impressive plane tree, worthy of protection, grows, required the house to be aligned with the street. The garage, the walls at the front and the compact, white cube of the upper storey, which projects over the “zebra coat” walls of the ground storey, shield the north-east side of the house from the public areas.
Via a small courtyard and an open-air staircase, one reaches the house’s ground-floor entrance. From there, one has a lateral view of the pool in front of the house. This pool can only be overlooked from here and from the living area, into which it reflects light through a window slit level with the floor.
The bright entrance hall opens via a two-storey frameless glazed aperture onto the garden and the old plane tree. All the other main rooms are aligned with this commanding tree: on the ground floor the living
