Architect's statement
This house is for a family of three members, two adults and a child.
The site is in an area where houses stand close together.
The main subject
to design this house is how to keep resident's privacy while creating cosy space.
A hint came from the image of the client.
The client grew up
in the countryside. In that area, most of house have backyard sandwiched between main house and shed. That is outdoor space but private zone surrounded
by a wall.
So, I made the room which is like to the backyard inside the house.
To keep the privacy, I put two walls facing both
ends of the site.
And those two walls fasten the "backyard room" as if it is floating.
The room (used as living space) is placed on
part of the way from dining zone to private room so that the room plays a part as a divider then the variation of the
space appeared.
There is not enough window on two walls so I took sunshine and ventilation from the top of the house.
Thus, there is a well
hole style space connecting the rooms that can feel family's sign.
That is my answer to the client's wish "bright and fun house"
