Designer's statement

The client wanted to build a home above his glass factory.

The home for the owners of a glass company floats above their manufacturing facility like a foreman's shack.

The radiant heated, butted glass façade functions as a sign for the glass factory below. Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods are fragmented. The building reconnects the residential slopes to downtown: The new horizontal, steel clad house relates to the vertical, steel clad US Steel tower.

Pittsburgh is Steeltown, USA, The home is clad with Cor10 Steel above a concrete block base.

The block base contains the workshop and a garage, along with a gym, a guest bedroom, and a sewing room. The steel clad volume above contains the kitchen, living room, and master bedroom.
