Designer's statement

The design of a single family home with a tenant space on a tight urban site.

Our idea was to open the building to the outdoors and to simplify the plan so that light could fill the interior.

Prepatinated flatlock seam copper siding relates the building to the environment and to Pittsburgh’s industrial past.

Each room has a specific relationship to the outdoors: Our bedroom connects to the Green Roof, the living room connects to an outdoor court, the den connects to our neighbors’ yards, and the ground floor tenant space connects to a small garden.
