This is a project by Manish Kumat | Abhikalpan Architects and it is located at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. Project's program: Single family house. There are twenty eight images for Contemporaneous Wooden Blend.
The use of wood, jute, wooden floorings and teak with Italian marble and contemporary materials make it both ethnic and modern.
To surpass the client’s dreams is the endeavor of every designer. Mr. Manish Kumat, the managing director of Abhikalpan Architects, created a family house in Indore keeping the interiors an interesting mix of traditionalism and modern ethos.
The elevation of this 5800 sf plot with a slope, a wooden clad front wall and the entry done in maandna gives it a rural look, showing the client’s love for culture.
The entrance opens to a double height foyer. It views a refreshing open to sky plant area. The designer has taken efforts to architecturally create this green pocket beside the four walls and blended with interiors to give a visual feel of being amidst nature after a hard day’s work!
Perlatto Italian marble floor, a wooden center table with white Corian top artistically inlayed with Mother of Pearl emphasizes the drawing room. The sitting is done in dual designs allowing two groups to sit at a time. An excellent use of the skills of an artist from West Bengal who lost all hopes in his art and started a small tea stall, have been displayed in the handmade jute wall covering with concealed lights highlighting them. The colorful accessories add liveliness in this room.
It is important to design the living room with comfort and warmth without compromising on elegance and style as the family spends a quality time here together. The TV unit has a cut work on MDF The dining table has siforex in an abstract design with a glass top and four chairs weaved in criss-cross jute dories and a stylish wooden bench. The area leads to 1500 sf lawn cleverly hidden by a textured wall, additionally built to create a sense of surprise and mystery for the outsiders!
The kitchen being the place where the ladies in the family spend the maximum time, is very spacious with excellent ventilation. It has a PU treated glass as dado. The kitchen leads to a good sized store room and an open to sky wash area to maintain hygiene. RO plant has been made invisible by placing it in adjacent store room.
The China Brown Italian marble staircase is done in white frosted CNC cut acrylic with white LED strips light highlighting it at the bottom and a wooden handrail. An inverted POP dome treated in golden finish Oikos paint enriches the chandelier in the first floor, creating the client’s need of exuding a rich and elegant feel as we climb the stairs. It mysteriously lightens the ceiling above. The length of the chandelier makes a strong connectivity between the two floors.
A huge unconventional family bed in teak wood with exposed brick work and a Fabindia corner hanging lamp makes a comfortable place for the family and friends. This leads to a passage with well lit niches for the children’s room.
The subtle shades of mauves and the picture frames done on the wall make the daughter’s room more lively and girly. The daughter Rishika’s initial ‘R’ highlights the showcase. The wooden floor blends stylishly with the modernity of the room.
The son’s room portrays the youthfulness and energetic life led by him. Amazing contrasts of metallic colored 3D boards behind the bed and the wooden floor is truly contemporary.
The wooden floor with a slant ceiling gives the master bed room a cottage feel. The intricate rafters in the ceiling with traditionally carved wooden brackets, a recliner with floral upholstery, a chest of drawers, an ornamental mirror on the dead wall with artistic fabric based wall covering blend well. The room leads to an open terrace where the couple can sit for morning tea.
The second floor has a gym followed by a white Jacuzzi that has been done in dark grey river finished tiles to create privacy with one wall of mirror cladding. This leads to a good sized steam bath and a shower area.
The designer has done extensive detailing to live up to the expectations of the client making this house a blend of contemporary and ethnic looks.
