Architect's statement

A re-interpretation of the department store.

As department stores use different space identities to recognize different brands or good-types, the AAS proposition would use different topological spaces 30058 — Andreas Murkudis Store — Gonzalez / Haase / AAS — Front View looking south like the one we can find in a city or in a village.

The former printer space of the Tagesspiegel is composed in two large halls 30057 — Andreas Murkudis Store — Gonzalez / Haase / AAS — View looking west that we can see as an exhibition space but also as an urban site.

The two halls have been cleared-out in the way all architectonic elements 30056 — Andreas Murkudis Store — Gonzalez / Haase / AAS — View looking north remain the only substance of the spaces.

The light is an important element and is just not lighting the goods but the space. The result is 30055 — Andreas Murkudis Store — Gonzalez / Haase / AAS — View looking east a magnified space that also loses all heaviness.

A few objects were carefully placed to articulate views on the goods. These objects work only on a 30054 — Andreas Murkudis Store — Gonzalez / Haase / AAS — Overview scale that you will not imagine movable. The used material is fibreboard white painted, and is usually linked to building construction.
