Extension of existing local on ground floor under a residential building block. In its northern part, the site is poured into St. James Street, generating close to the access to upper floors (dwelling building), a building depth that requires the interior to flow to the rear facade. Thus, all airy spaces are structured on both sides of the façade. The expansion, is felt in the posterior lateral of the current locale, creating a new higher volume, related with the original volume, and adding a large polyvalent room at its principal use unfragmented, which allows have an equipment capable of absorbing larger occupations and uses.
The expansion is set for this large dividable room and a battery of complementary serving spaces (bathrooms, changing rooms, storage of material, and in the back of the adjacent extended volume, the facilities and production systems of the building).
The generation of this new great room, allow to restructure the original spaces of the existing local area, producing a new zone of workshops room and activity rooms, serving, at the same time, of crossing of bathrooms infrastructure, storage rooms and facilities of the original part.
The expanded volume unfolds like a big box rotated, hermetic in contact with their environment, generating lighting for their superior north area and lower body, creating a contrast that adds indoor privacy and minimize the effects of their relationship with the surrounding environment. In this case, it's trying to voluntarily not to relate with the environment, to make clear the complex coexistence between different uses — dwelling building in the rear, a school with children with special needs, etc. The expanded building generates large courtyards and openings strategically connected for easy access and specific use of this architecture, and so enable the visual and functional connections within near spaces.
