Designer's statement

The low price of a plot has been redeemed by very complicated conditions for building a family house. The plot and its limitations were a real challenge; countryside around the river Berounka and the atmosphere of a valley were really charming. All these circumstances motivated architects to recommend the plot to the client.

The plot is quite narrow — it is nine meters wide, moreover it is situated in a flood area. That's why it was necessary to respect a restriction that whole living area has to be situated in the first floor. However, the view on Berounka River from the main living room in the first floor is absolutely beautiful. The steel construction of the terrace provides space to enjoy this view during summer time. External staircase connect garden directly to leaving space.

When the first project had been approved, the essential changes were requested by the client and finally a new building study was created. In the first project the ground floor was completely opened, the house was like a "floating wooden carriage" on a steel construction. In the second and final project the ground floor was designed as an utility room, a garage and a room for occasional living.

The house is made of concrete blocks that were finally insulated and plastered from outside. The concept was to leave peripheral walls without plaster in concrete surface in the interior, internal walls cover with white plaster and inbuilt furniture design in different vivid colours. Red colour dominates the leaving space because it is the favourite colour of the clients. The sleeping rooms are designed in soothing green and blue tinge. The interior was designed according to the project, no changes has been made and so the unflustered concrete masonry in contrast to the colour doors and inbuilt furniture make a very pleasant and intimate place for living.
