The Housing and Urban Development Department (SEDUVI), part of the Mexico City´s government, has the initiative of redesigning the existing bus-stops which are over 5 years old. The principal idea is to solve problems detected with the old ones and also to increase value of the current design with newer amenities.
The idea was to convert this bus-stop in to an urban lamp, which allows more security for the waiting users. This illuminated ceiling is made up of an aluminium frame structure that supports translucent acrylic panels.
The main structure is composed by an “I” beam, giving stiffness and resistance, and also hiding joints between the elements.
The bench was designed keeping ergonomics in mind. Individual seats are made out of tubes of 3/4” of stainless steel, which allows for easy maintenance -- keeping the benches clean and free of water and dust accumulation.
The benches don't have backrests so that they can be used from both sides. Another important consideration was the issue of graffiti. This was addressed by keeping most of the surfaces discontinuous.
