Designer's statement

This holiday dwelling was built in the green dune landscape of the Dutch island Schiermonnikoog. The Cornelisse family requested that De Zwarte Hond design a spatial house, to be situated in the forest area of Karrepad, which lies on the outskirts of the village of Schiermonnikoog.

The house is built of dark and light wood combined with a zinc roof. Architecture and nature are mutually reinforcing, for example by the use of wood, even in the veranda. Glass sliding doors, windows and shutters around the house provide plenty of light and literally bring nature inside. The interior is light and open, with a tall and narrow corridor connecting the different rooms giving the house a spacious feel. This dwelling adds value to its place and gives extra meaning by its fascinating design and detailed construction.
