Architect's statement
The client intended to present the citizen with a continuous and ample space adding all the surfaces which before where fragmented in pavements, squares and marginal spaces, together with the roads, dignifying this public space which are currently sacrificed to the heavy presence of traffic.
A new topography of concrete, a carpet with relief that defines a new concept of public space in Calatayud will be constructed. The surface of this platform is similar to that of a plot of natural land, a wavy surface which youngsters will make the most of as these sloping spaces are attractive for bikes, rollerblades and skateboards. This cheerful stone carpet will produce a relief which will heighten and make it different to the rest of the square which has a more unhurried use.
A new topography of concrete, a carpet with relief that defines a new concept of public space in Calatayud will be constructed. The different areas of colors are limited by curved steel plates, like topographic lines, whose voids were filled with concrete. Surrounding the square the pavement is made of concrete prefabricated pieces, that shows people with different colours the interesting points like entries, benchs, traffic road, trees and kiosk
