Architect's statement
This project recovers the historic trace left by the bygone church of Saint Martin, jewel of the Mudéjar style in Aragón; a white stone carpet takes the place of the old nave, reminding the citizen of this ancient and forgotten temple. This new plane is developed horizontally, establishing a high limit which seems to hover, reinforcing the symbolic character of this space; this projecting perimeter is used as a 30 m long bench which relieves naturally and unassumingly the use of this access point in the old town centre.
The carpet is drilled with steel “flower bed holes” that respect the already existing trees and incorporate new greenery, textures and uses to the area. The concrete slab flies like a comfortable bench and is covered by gray granite pieces
