Architect's statement

A viewer on the road sees only two anthracite-coloured bodies glinting in the sunlight, with an anthracite-coloured gate in between. Behind this gate is another world. Beyond the curving entrance path, one sees a building made from massive, light coloured cubes and dark panels, with its individual parts united by a roof plate tiled in red brick.

The house’s entrance area is covered by a broad projecting panel, which is angled. Like the walls of the carport at the entrance to the plot, this panel has a silicon skin that sparkles in sunlight and moonlight. This surface treatment was developed into a versatile coating system after extensive experimentation by the architects.

Through the entrance one reaches a central glass roofed *atrium*. From here, the sunlight penetrates deep into the garden storey, which faces the wood that lies opposite.

A wall panel made from rough wood connects the atrium with the large living space, with its interconnected kitchen and dining area. There is a pivoted fireplace between the dining area and the living area, whose accentuated chimney, projecting from the roof, pinpoints the location of this important area on the exterior of the house.

The glazed apertures, as wide and high as the interior space, on the south side and on the main display front extend the depth of the house significantly beyond its own boundaries.

Materials: massive construction concrete mineral plaster, white aluminium-steel façade construction floors inside and outside basalt, rotary brushed and matt finished carport coated with silicon graphite wood fixtures, Jatoba wood, unplaned room fixtures custom manufactured, designed by the architect.
