Architect's statement
This project of a tea house, an extension of the existing main house, is located in Umemi, Kyoto, Japan.
The curved-grass-roof tea house is the same volume as the carport, which is made of white wall, and similar materials: burned cedar for the exterior wall as the one of the existing house. And it is intended to be simple, earthy and moderate.
The interior is quietly filled with soft light under the curved ceiling where the form appears outside as it is, wrapped by the ceiling and the floor of Paulownia, and enclosed by the wall of the sand mortar. They were planed to be effective in the serene and silence scene In one side, the grass-roof changes its colors vividly as Japanese distinctive four seasons comes, the other side the white wall doesn't change. It wishes to become familiar deeply and gently to the suburbs by the contrast.
